People love sharing their stories with others. They love talking to their neighbors about the great delivery service they tried, talk to their co-workers about the fantastic deal they landed at the mall, etc.

But you’re probably wondering:

How’s this relevant to my business?

The reality is that getting people to talk about your service or product is crucial to the success and even the survival of your business.

No matter how well your marketing department executes its job, if a customer is upset with your service and tells three of their friends, I guarantee you those three friends are NEVER going to go to you for your service or product.

In reality, happy customers can make you and upset customers can break you.

Here’s the deal:

Nowadays, finding out what others are saying about your business is as easy as visiting Google and typing a few words in the search bar.

Let’s take a look at these stats for a second:

Now that we are aware of the importance of online reviews, let’s look into generating more positive reviews to create more sales for your business.

1. Under promise and over deliver.

Want customers to be thrilled with their experience? Want them to share their positive experience with all their online communities?

Simple:

Over deliver. Blow their minds away. Show them that they made the right decision by choosing to do business with you.

2. Make it easy and convenient to leave a review.

You should already be collecting your customer’s email for email marketing purposes. Why not send them a nice and warm “thank you” message after they receive your product or service, that has a convenient link to your Yelp page or Google Reviews site?

The email could go something like this:

You could even send out a follow-up email to this one 2 days after- if they didn’t open your first email. It’s super simple to do something like that using email marketing software such as Marketo or MailChimp.

 3. Offer Incentives.

Offer your clients a 5% OFF when they leave an online review.

Now:

Remember, you don’t want to pay people to leave a positive review. Therefore the 5% OFF is offered to ANYONE who leaves a review regardless of their opinion.

4. Be responsive.

Show the world you care.

Did someone leave a bad review? Don’t just ignore it. You must respond to it, and take full responsibility.  Never explain yourself or make- excuses for poor service.

If someone is reading through your reviews and sees you’re trying to make up for a bad experience, people are more likely to trust you. After you respond on the review site, It’s a good idea to reach out to them via email or phone and ask them what you can do to improve their experience with your business.
